Shakespeare in Crisis

This is a project by my fifth-grade class at the School of European Education in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. We have been studying The Merchant of Venice and the issues it raises about prejudice and social exclusion, especially in the context of the current crisis in Greece and Europe. In the video, students interpret Shylock's famous monologue in modern terms, putting his words into the mouths of people who have been affected by the crisis. This project brings together our work on language, literature, ethics, and European studies.
